GLP-1 medications, short for Glucagon-like peptide-1 medications, regulate appetite and reduce food intake. Studies have shown their potential to achieve weight reductions of up to 15% over a year or more when combined with healthy lifestyle choices*.
Weight management isn’t solely about willpower; biological factors affecting metabolism, hunger, and weight can be beyond your control.

GLP-1 medications promote a sustained feeling of fullness, help curb food cravings, and improve the body’s ability to process sugars more effectively (source). As a result, these medications are frequently prescribed for managing type 2 diabetes or obesity.
In chronic weight management, GLP-1 medications are often used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and enriched physical activity. They are also utilized in diabetes patients to aid in blood sugar control.

Examples of GLP-1 medications include:

  • Semaglutide (Wegovy®, Rybelsus®, Ozempic®)
  • Tirzepatide (Zepbound®, Mounjaro®)
  • Dulaglutide (Trulicity®)
  • Liraglutide (Victoza®, Saxenda®)

During your initial consultation, your healthcare provider will assess your health needs to determine whether these medications are appropriate. They will also address any questions you may have about GLP-1 medications.

*Note: Always consult with your provider for personalized medical advice and treatment options.

Please note that these criteria are not exhaustive, and it is vital to consult with your provider for a comprehensive evaluation based on your circumstances.

Yes, before your initial visit with your licensed provider, this step ensures your suitability for our program and helps determine which medications would be most effective for your weight management. The required labs typically include a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), hemoglobin A1C (HgbA1C), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and a lipid panel.

If you completed your previous lab results within the past 12 months with the required panels mentioned above, you can upload them to your patient portal. Our team will then upload them to your chart for your provider to review before your initial visit.

Whether you have already completed lab work or not, please proceed with booking a consultation. After booking, a provider will review your information and advise on any necessary steps for lab work if required.

It’s important to note that periodic lab tests may be needed to monitor your body’s response to the medication and ensure safety.

You can visit the nearest Labcorp laboratory for your lab testing. If you have completed the necessary lab tests within twelve months, you can upload your previous lab results to your chart on the patient portal. Our team will then upload them for your provider to review before your initial visit. You may also obtain the required blood work from your primary care physician’s office to avoid additional costs.
Lab costs can vary depending on whether you use insurance or pay out of pocket. We advise contacting your insurance provider directly to ascertain whether your plan covers lab testing.
Weight loss outcomes can vary depending on your starting weight, medical conditions, lifestyle changes, and the specific GLP-1 medication prescribed. Many individuals who have used GLP-1 medications for 68 weeks or longer have achieved weight reductions of up to 15% from their initial body weight when combined with healthy lifestyle choices. However, newer medications that are GLP-1 and GIP agonists have shown an average weight reduction of 20%.
